Why Amazing Content?
First, social media is flooded with content! Second, because of the vast amount of content it is hard to be seen. Amazing content is a must!
Amazing content has 3 elements or sides. I call it the triangle content.
As the image shows voice is the base of all content. Image and type is supported by voice.
You must complete the triangle to make your content amazing. If you don’t have one your content is incomplete so it is average at best.
Add Your Voice
Your voice is basically your brand’s personality. It is the attitude and values that you want people to think about or say about you when your not around. You can also think of it as your mission statement.
Don’t confuse voice with tone. Tone is how you apply your voice. Tone can change within situation but voice should not change.
For example in a serious situation your tone would be sincere or thoughtful, in a humorous situation your tone would be funny or silly.
For instance I am passionate about helping business find real and honest information about social media. I might share a silly meme about the fast pace of social media and write a funny caption for it. That projects my mission of helping business navigate social media. I would not share a story about a businesses social media mishap with a funny caption. It would not be inline with my mission or personality I want for my brand. I would probably share it with a serious caption of how to avoid this kind of mishap.
When you write your captions or choose images ( that’s up next) you should always consider you voice. Is what your saying and showing what you want people to think about your business or brand? Does it support your mission statement and values? Both very important when building trust and making your content real and authentic.
People want real and authentic! We are all aware we are being sold too. Your content will not be amazing if it comes across as unreliable and untrustworthy.
Amazing content always includes an image! The days of no image are gone. Do not forget your voice when choosing you image. Make sure what you want to get across or say is shown in your image. Example: If it is a woman based service you probably want a women in the image.
When it comes to image choice you have:
Each one has a reason you would want to use it. You also have to consider which platform you are posting on. Each platform has different image needs. If you need more information on platforms and what images they use check out my blog on platform choices:
All three need:
- to be clear in image and sound (if included)
- enough lighting
You can have still or apply movement to your photos with Gif’s. I consider Gif ‘s moving photos. Although some would argue with me for today I am leaving them here.
Why use a photo
Because it is the easiest of the three. Photos can be taken any where by simply using your phone camera. Phone cameras have come a long way and most provide good enough quality for social media. There are also many apps that can edit photos easily.
Sometimes it gets you point across better. If you want to model a piece of jewelry or a shirt a photo might be your best option. Photos work for products or services that aren’t experience based.
Why use a GIF
The reason you might want to use a GIF is you might want to add a little fun or feeling to your photo. Many use them to add an extra touch of emotion.
You can have live or pre-recorded video. Video is a good option if you have an experience based product or service. An example is something like an exfoliating facial scrub. People really need to apply or at least think about the feeling when applied and video can help with that mind set.
Why use a live video
Live is not edited and more rough. Some times it can feel more authentic because it is real time and an unedited. Feels like you are really talking with them and more personal.
Why use a pre-recorded video
Pre-recorded can feel personal too but many times it is used for information. You might want to be very specific about what information your giving out or maybe you need a longer how-to video. Those are areas that a pre-recorded might be your best choice.
Graphics can have text, drawings, photos, or a combination of these. Because they are a visual representation of an idea or object they are popular. New apps and design programs make them easier to make now.
Why use a graphics
If you want to make a lot of information easier and quicker for people to take in then graphics work well. Charts, drawings, and text are used to show an idea in picture form. People process pictures faster than reading words.
They also are used for motivation and inspiration frequently in social media. You can put a quote or saying with a photo easily.
The last side of the amazing content triangle is content type. This is how you want to present your voice and image. What you choose depends on our followers and what your are trying to achieve. Are you educating, trying to connect, or maybe inspire? Ask yourself what I am trying to say or do. Always goes back to the base…VOICE.

I place content types into 3 baskets. When there are so many options my brain needs to simplify by bundling. These baskets or bundles are a starting point for calendar creation. You want to mix up content to keep your followers engaged.
My 3 baskets:
- Solve Problems/Achieve Goals
Most content can be placed into one of these baskets. Lets look at what goes in each basket.
This is the content that you use to share some of yourself with your followers.
- Behind the Scenes – work prep, where your going, how things get done, etc.
- Interests- at least two interests you have outside of work or your business
- Motivational/inspirational – those quotes and sayings we all see that inspire us
This is the content that you use to engage with your followers.
- Questions – ask your follower questions about themselves, ask for advice
- Polls – use these as surveys to gather info about follows, ask for these opinion, don’t forget to add some fun ones, very similar to questions
- User Generated – when a user adds a pic or video of using or a review of your product or service it is high value.
- Contest – if you have enough engaged followers contests can be great way to get noticed.
Many want to shy away from interactive content but it is not going away. It will only continue to grow.

Solve Problems/Achieve Goals
This is the content where you help your follows solve an issue or get where they want to be.
- How to – help them learn how to do some thing
- Where to – show them where to get some thing
- List of Resources – share items that will help
- How your product or services help – show case how your product or services solve their problem or achieve their goal
Putting Amazing Content Together
You can start with any piece. It doesn’t matter which one as long as you consider all 3 sides.
Example 1: You have list of books that helped you. You think this would be great to share. Then you decide what you want to say about the list and make them into a graphic list.
Example 2: You think I want to inspire others to travel. Looking at your pictures you find a good one of your trip to Italy. You decide to add a quote and then post it.
When you put all 3 pieces together then you have amazing content! Leaving one out will give you an incomplete triangle. You want you content to feel authentic and contain a piece of you. What content are you going to create today?
